Linear gauge — version history

u_pbt_gauge · Introduced in 5.0

A value read along a straight scale, horizontal or vertical: a bar or a marker, coloured ranges that say whether the value is good, graduations, a target and a readout in the format of your choice. The twin of the angular gauge. Introduced in 5.0.

  • A scale from id_minimum to id_maximum and a value (id_value) that slides to its place; outside the scale the value is drawn at the nearest end and still read back and written as given.
  • A horizontal or a vertical scale (is_orientation), the maximum at the start if you wish (ib_reversed); a horizontal scale follows the reading direction of a right-to-left application.
  • The value shown as a bar filled from the minimum or as a marker beside the track (is_pointer), in the theme accent or a colour of your own (il_value_color); the colour and the thickness of the track (il_track_color, ii_thickness).
  • Coloured ranges of the scale added with a key and two ends (of_add_range), coloured by their tone (is_tone: success, warn, danger, info, neutral — one set of colours for light themes and one for dark themes) or by a colour of their own; a name for each range (is_label), shown with its ends in a panel under the pointer (ib_value_tooltip). of_current_range says which range the value is in.
  • Numbered graduations at a step chosen by the scale or set by you (id_tick_step), small graduations between them (ii_minor_ticks); numbers that would overlap are skipped.
  • Every number — readout, scale, ends of a range — written with a PowerBuilder display format (is_format, #,##0.00, $#,##0, 0%) and the separators of the display language; without a format the scale chooses the decimals. A unit after the value (is_unit) and a title (is_title).
  • A target drawn as a mark across the track (id_target, ib_show_target).
  • With ib_editable the user drags the bar, clicks the scale or uses the arrows, Page Up / Page Down, Home and End, by steps of your choice (id_step); each gesture raises ue_value_changed once, and a value set by the code raises nothing.
  • ue_range_clicked and ue_range_rclicked give the key of a clicked or right-clicked range; the keyboard walks the ranges, Enter and the Menu key raise the same events.
  • The value slides with the duration and the curve of your choice (ib_animated, ii_anim_duration, is_anim_easing); a workstation set to reduce motion is followed.
  • An add never replaces a range: a key already held, empty or holding / or | is refused with -5, as is a removal of an unknown key; a removed range takes its handle with it.
  • The component reports its ideal height on demand (ib_auto_height), greys out and leaves the Tab order when disabled (ib_enabled), and is announced as a meter — a slider when editable — to screen readers.
